Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO is eliminating pagers in 2010. Sprint will be carrier providing text only enabled smartphones. Alternatively, you can use your own Sprint phone as well. Sprint will provide cellular coverage in every corner of the hospital including the basement and sub-basements. I don't have any financial specifics, but I'm sure Sprint has a huge incentive as being the carrier to offset if not subsidize the cost entirely.
