The product you linked to seems to have a similar set-up — the PERS device connects to the user’s handset via Bluetooth.

Whilst I agree that the smart mobile is very capable of swallowing up ‘other’ devices I do feel that the M-PERS button device is unique in it’s pure simplicity.

IMHO This acquisition isn’t indicative of the value of such a button and I think it will probably be the last device ‘type’ to get swallowed up by smartphones and only once mobiles themselves become so small, power optimised, robust and easy to carry that you’re not aware you’re carrying them.

I’ve been trialing this technology for years (see Securecom.ie) and a key feature for me is that the device doesn’t converge so that the mobile can support the care of a patient who is getting out of bed in the middle of the night (eg. to visit the WC) or taking a shower etc.
