Comparative Effectiveness Research
Establishes a private, non-profit corporation to assist providers, payers, and policy makers in making informed health decisions. Research conducted would be comparative clinical effectiveness research, which is research that evaluates and compares the health outcomes and clinical effectiveness, risks, and benefits of two or more medical treatments, services, or items. Defines treatment, services, and items as: health care interventions, protocols for treatment, care management and delivery, procedures, medical devices, diagnostic tools, pharmaceuticals (including drugs and biologics), integrative health practices, and any strategies or items used in the treatment, management, diagnosis, or prevention of illness or injury in patients. Requires dissemination of the research information to health care providers, patients, vendors of health information technology focused on clinical decision support, relevant expert organizations, Federal and private health plans, and other relevant stakeholders.
