Infographic: Sizing Up the iPad for Healthcare

Apple iPadPerhaps more than any other quote, Kaiser Permanente senior IT manager Sean Chai’s recent quote in the Wall Street Journal sums up how a good number of healthcare professionals feel about Apple’s iPad: “Apple didn’t design this for the health-care industry. But it’s a tremendous form factor.” Form factor plus access to thousands of medical apps (more than 300 medical apps developed specifically for the iPad) has helped Apple’s newest device gain a small foothold in healthcare.

    Amazing job putting this together, Brian!

    One question/comment: Did the Epocrates survey just survey the physician population who use their service? If so, it would be misleading to imply that the percentages shown are statistically representative of all US physicians. I say this because physicians using Epocrates represent a much different demographic than those who don’t, further skewing the analysis and conclusions. Potentially further compounding this error is that the survey may not have been randomized insofar as who was polled, e.g. maybe it was mostly iPhone users who felt compelled to respond and were biased in their opinions toward favoring the iPad.
