Recent data suggests that the most common cause of security breaches in health care involve theft or loss of laptop computers. As smartphones continue to spread like wildfire in health care, there’s a risk that loss of these devices will become a new, perhaps very large problem when it comes to maintaining patient privacy. Any provider that signs up for, and begins using one of the devices listed in this article needs to be fully confident that they are abiding by HIPAA rules before going live. It is amazing to see how mobile technology, such as iphones and ipads has influenced the way we use electronic health records. We just released a press release stating Practice Fusion, a free, web-based EHR, now works with the ipad and other android tablets. While other competitors have released such news earlier, we waited to make sure we could have a integration that was completely HIPAA compliant. Because data is so precious, our mobile solutions should be just as secure if not more than our web-based solutions.

I would add Greenway’s PrimeMobile iPhone App. Having looked at many EMR systems, I think I can safely say that Greenway has a top notch system (better than some of the so called ‘major’ players.)
