Just a week after Nestle announced a two-year clinical study with Medidata, the company announced a partnership with mobile medication adherence startup Medisafe help providers track patient adherence to a Nestle nutritional drink, called Impact Advanced Recovery.
Physicians who recommend the drink to major elective surgery patients in the perioperative window will also ask them to download the Medisafe app. The app reminds patients when to drink the beverage and also includes educational content, medication management, and caregiver support tools.
“In study after study, strong compliance to Impact formulas in the perioperative protocol has been shown to support the immune system to help promote recovery after major elective surgery,” Hoddy Klein, vice president of medical nutrition marketing north america for Nestle Health Science, said in a statement. “We believe the Medisafe application has the potential to significantly increase adherence to the Impact protocol that is recommended for certain major elective surgery patients by their healthcare professionals, and we look forward to seeing the positive results of this collaboration in the months ahead.”
As noted above, last week Nestle announced that it is conducting a two-year clinical study with data startup Medidata in China to assess the impact of physical activity and nutrition on adults with joint discomfort. The study will use Garmin fitness trackers and a mobile app. The trial was quietly launched in May 2015. Participants will use Medidata’s ePRO (electronic patient-reported outcomes) app to answer questionnaires and submit subjective data about how they are feeling. Nestle and Medidata said they were unable to disclose the number of trial participants.
