NextGen Healthcare Information Systems, a subsidiary of Quality Systems, has agreed to plunk down $26 million to acquire EagleDream Health, a cloud-based analytics outfit that optimizes practice performance using clinical, financial and administrative data. The deal is expected to close this quarter, pending all the customary closing conditions.

NextGen is a healthcare information technology and services company that delivers foundational capabilities to organizations that want to promote healthy communities.

This marks the second major asset acquired by NextGen this year, following its purchase of Entrada.

With a vendor-agnostic platform for managing value-based care, EagleDream Health’s overarching goal is to boost population health management with analytics and actionable intelligence.

“As we explored various analytics solutions over several months, we were immediately attracted to EagleDream Health,” a NextGen spokesperson told MobiHealthNews. “Not only is the platform intuitive and easy-to-use, but we were excited about how the solution can proactively transform critical reporting across disparate data sources into actionable intelligence that can impact our clients’ decision-making and immediately provide value. And, as they were founded by a physician, we immediately connected with their senior leadership around our joint objectives to improve both the patient and provider experience while improving financial outcomes.”

With the healthcare marketplace transitioning from fee-for-service to a value-based model, the company said the challenge for practices is advancing care quality and access while maintaining profitability.

“The proposed acquisition of EagleDream Health immediately enables existing NextGen Healthcare clients to identify and close those gaps with implementation of EagleDream Health’s analytics platform, thus facilitating improved clinical decision making,” said the spokesperson. “As healthcare continues to evolve, the solution also provides a strong foundation to unlock new areas of performance and value enablement. EagleDream Health allows NextGen Healthcare to continue its evolution from a product-centered to a solution-centered organization, as well as its commitment to becoming a trusted advisor for its clients.”

What the acquisition is expected to do for NextGen is enhance the care experience and increase patient engagement for its ambulatory clinics and health systems; meanwhile, the company hopes to reduce the per capita cost of healthcare, and improve the work-life balance for its clinicians and other staff.

EagleDream Health CEO Dr. Betty Rabinowitz said that, by aligning their platform with NextGen, “we can greatly accelerate innovation in the ambulatory and acute care markets to improve the overall health of patients while also increasing practice profitability."
