Independa, the San Diego-based developer of telehealth products for senior care and aging in place, has made its flagship Integrated CloudCare suite commercially available on LG televisions and its Angela social engagement platform on Samsung touch-screen tablets. Additionally, Independa also will be looking for resellers of its products, the company announced at last week's Digital Health Summit at International CES in Las Vegas.
The Integrated Cloud Care suite, which combines Angela, a Web app for caregivers and interfaces for wireless monitors and home sensors, is now available on LG Pro:Centric TVs. The healthcare version of Pro:Centric, which Independa helped LG develop, comes with a custom-designed camera and microphone, in addition to a "Magic Remote" with a scrolling ball to help seniors navigate on-screen menus.
This expands a deal with LG, which had been testing Angela on its televisions for about a year. On Jan. 2, Independa announced that LG Electronics USA was among several investors injecting $1.65 million in new funding into the company.
Customers also may choose 10-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 tablets for the Angela platform under a new partnership Independa announced with Samsung Health at CES.
"We're gratified to see global brands embracing our technology," Independa CEO Kian Saneii said in a statement. "Technology leaders are helping us realize our vision of creating a single holistic enterprise platform to engage elders and help their professional and family caregivers alike address a spectrum of caregiving needs."
Independa now is trying to reach more customers through a reseller program, also launched at CES. While not disclosing any specific names, the company says it is "actively engaged" in talks with health insurers, home care agencies, senior living facilities and other healthcare organizations to market Independa products.
