Canary Health, Teva, and other digital health hires and departures

Ashdod, Israel-based Integrity Applications, makers of noninvasive glucose monitor GlucoTrak, has hired a new chief financial officer, Sami Sassoun. A veteran CFO, Sassoun most recently worked at Bedrock Enterprises, a boutique consulting firm he founded.

"We are very pleased to welcome Sami as our chief financial officer and member of the executive team," Avner Gal, chief executive officer of Integrity Applications, said in a statement. "His breadth of experience in capital markets and public company accounting will assist Integrity in attaining its goals as we continue our transition to a commercial stage company." Mr. Gal thanked Mr. Hertz, on behalf of the board of directors, for his service to the company for over three years as its CFO and for his willingness to stay on to assist Mr. Sassoun in the transition.

Canary Health, which offers digital health self-management programs for chronic conditions, has made two new hires. Laurel Fuqua will join as senior vice president of clinical operations and Gustavo Sandrigo will be the new vice president of engineering. Fuqua, a registered nurse and diabetes educator, previously served in an SVP role at InSpark Technologies, while Sandrigo comes from RxVantage, where he served as chief technology officer.

“Laurel’s background and strategic understanding of where healthcare delivery has been and where it is going will be invaluable to Canary Health at a crucial time in our development,” Dr. Neal Kaufman, chief medical officer of Canary Health, said in a statement. “Her vast knowledge of how evidence-based interventions are implemented in the context of the therapeutic relationship between patients and clinicians across multiple areas of the healthcare system will help guide the company in exciting new directions.”

“One of the most important contributors to the success of an online self-management program is its ability to effectively engage patients day-to-day over an extended period of time,” Adam Kaufman, president and CEO of Canary Health, said in a statement. “Gustavo’s expertise in building platforms with the patient in mind will be incredibly important in helping Canary Health maintain its positive outcomes and incredibly high participant satisfaction rate beyond 90 percent.”

Digital health company Kindara, which focuses on women’s health and fertility, has appointed Dr. Alan Copperman as chief medical advisor. Copperman is the vice chair of the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Science at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City.

“Dr. Copperman is an acclaimed medical professional with decades of experience innovating and advocating for women’s reproductive health,” Ira Hernowitz, CEO of Kindara, said in a statement. “We welcome his expertise, and look forward to working with Dr. Copperman to ensure women within the Kindara community continue to receive the knowledge and support they need to meet their fertility goals.”

Teva Pharmaceuticals, an Israeli global pharmaceutical company that has invested a fair amount in digital health, has a new CEO after Erez Vigodman stepped down. 

“I believe that now is the right time for me to step down,” Vigodman said in a statement. “It has been a privilege to lead Teva, and I am proud of all we have accomplished. I am confident that the Company’s future is bright.”

Dr. Yitzhak Peterburg, who has served as Chairman of the Teva Board of Directors since January 2015, has been appointed Interim President and Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately, while the company searches for a new CEO.

“We are grateful to Yitzhak for taking on the role of interim CEO,” Dr. Sol Barer, chairman of the board, said in a statement. “Teva’s Board of Directors, with its decades of collective pharmaceutical industry experience, will continue to play an active role in driving the Company’s strategy, and I look forward to working with the management team to execute on the value creation opportunities ahead. We intend to conduct a comprehensive search to identify the best person to lead the Company for years to come.
