Four months after landing FDA clearance POPS! one, a diabetes management system, is now commercially launching.

The system uses an algorithm to give users real-time personalized diabetes coaching. It also includes small glucose meter that attaches to the back of a user’s smartphone. Users can check their glucose levels on the meter and the results will automatically transfer to the app. The platform lets users track their blood glucose levels. Users can decide to share that data with family members or a physician.

Why it matters

With over 100 million people in the US who are living with diabetes or prediabetes, it is a common chronic condition in the country. Diabetes management is often a time consuming and rigorous process. POPS! is pitching this technology as another way to help manage care.

The trend

Diabetes management is a major market opportunity in the health tech world. Livongo, Fit4D, and Lark are some of the big names in the industry.

Device companies like Dexcom are also creating mobile tools to help their patients manage the condition. In February, the company added a slew of new features to its Dexcom G6 companion app, including giving users the ability for Siri to read a user’s glucose level out load and display graphs directly on the lock screen.

On the record

"Our team has developed this solution for people with diabetes," Lonny Stormo CEO, said in a statement "It is an amazing milestone to announce that we have launched this system, and it is now in people's hands to make their lives better and lower our clients’ healthcare costs."
