Every quarter, MobiHealthNews rounds up the biggest digital health news related to healthcare provider news, health insurance and employer-related news, in addition to pharma news. We also track the quarterly reports from relevant public companies, plus we round up funding, M&A and FDA clearance announcements. Read on below for a quick table of contents for our various second quarter recap articles.

For Q2 funding, we tracked a total of 46 deals, coming to about $500 million in funding, not including an $80 million raise from tech-savvy health insurance company Bright Health. In addition to that, we saw 18 mergers and acquisitions during the first half of 2016, many of which were in the wearable activity tracker space. We also rounded up FDA news from the first two quarters of the year, including 19 device clearances.

Our provider roundup of mostly hospital news from the quarter saw telemedicine as the biggest area of focus, but plenty of news on patient engagement and patient-generated data as well. Pharma news for the quarter included a number of partnerships and launches from different pharma companies. On the payer side, new support from CMS, deals inked by private payers, and some interesting headlines from smaller insurers filled out our Q2 recap.

We've been tracking the recent quarterly earnings calls of a number of public companies with strong ties to digital health. These include sports apparel company Under Armour (which spent hundreds of millions acquiring digital health tracking companies a few years ago), recently-IPO'd remote visits company Teladoc, fitness tracking device company Garmin, and health content and app company WebMD
