Hong Seng's eMedAsia, CLEA partner to provide virtual COVID-19 screening for international travel

Malaysian digital health platform eMedAsia has started offering online COVID-19 testing services through its partnership with CLEA Technology.

Its partner provides virtual COVID-19 RTK and PCR screening services via the CLEADOC mobile app. It serves travellers who are seeking COVID-19 tests as a pre-departure or on-arrival requirement. CLEADOC has doctors onboard who verify test results in-app.

eMedAsia, a joint venture between Hong Seng Consolidated and KOOP MMA, the investment arm of the Malaysian Medical Association, is offering the online testing service to both inbound and outbound travellers in preparation for the next phase of Malaysia's border reopening.

"Malaysia is expected to welcome more than four million visitors while many Malaysians are expected to travel abroad following the reopening of borders," noted Director Dr Thirunavukarasu Rajoo.

Recently, eMedAsia collaborated with the government's MySafeTravel to connect its network of over 2,000 private clinics with inbound travellers.

Indian health tech startup Phablecare buys diabetes management platform Fused Training

Chronic disease management startup Phablecare has acquired Fused Training, a fitness platform dedicated to type 1 diabetes patients, for an undisclosed sum.

Founded in 2018, Phablecare delivers chronic disease care through its mobile app, which is now serving over three million patients and onboarded more than 10,000 doctors across India.

Combining theoretical science and practical experience, Fused Training creates tailored programmes for patients with type 1 diabetes.

Its acquisition, according to a press release, adds type 1 diabetes management to Phablecare's portfolio and enables its users to access Fused Training's programmes.

"Being the only company working for type 1 diabetes management and sports fitness in India, we are thrilled to begin this new journey with the Phablecare team. Fused Training's vision remains unchanged, and this collaboration will help us improve our presence and automate many of our programmes during this transition," Fused Training founder Sahil Madan commented.

Terumo connects insulin patch pump with Glooko platform

Japanese medical device maker Terumo and Glooko, a US-based remote health monitoring tech provider, have teamed up to enable diabetes data transfer and sharing from a medical device to a mobile app.

Based on a press release, their partnership has enabled users of Terumo's MEDISAFE WITH insulin patch pump to transfer their recorded data into the Glooko platform, where their insulin dosage, food, and activities are visualised in the form of graphs.

Patients will be able to share their data with their doctors, who then can view their patients' health records remotely via the Glooko analytics portal. 

"This means people with diabetes will be able to make more informed decisions with their data, and collaborate with their health care team," Glooko CEO Russ Johannesson said about their integrated offering, which will become available in Europe from May. 

Terumo and Glooko are also working on another feature that transfers diabetes data into the Glooko platform via near field communication, which will come to Europe later this year. 

"These new solutions will allow people with diabetes to upload their data from home easily without the need to visit the hospital. We believe this is a valuable solution for both patients and healthcare providers, especially under the post-COVID-19 'new normal' lifestyle," said Hikaru Samejima, president of Terumo's General Hospital Company.
