Healthcare operations software developer symplr announced its plans to buy medical supply chain-management software company GreenLight Medical for an undisclosed sum. This news comes just months after symplr sounded the acquisition of Midas Health Analytics Solutions for $340 million.

As part of the deal, symplr will acquire GreenLight's software, which is focused on giving health organizations data for "evaluating, purchasing and deploying new medical technology, streamlining collaborative and compliant purchasing decisions." 

Founded in 2014, GreenLight Medical has roughly $1.2 million in funding, according to Crunchbase. 

WHY IT MATTERS 

According to a 2021 Kaufman Hall report, 99% of health organizations have reported difficulties in supply procurement. symplr is pitching this acquisition as a way to help build out its product line and offer its clients more services in the supply chain-management arena. 

"GreenLight Medical is a natural complement to our healthcare operations portfolio. The combination of symplr's Spend Management offering and GreenLight's software platform will enable financial leaders across health systems to make more informed spending decisions," BJ Schaknowski, CEO of symplr, said in a statement.

"Healthcare systems today are seeking integrated and connected enterprise solutions. Our vision for symplr Spend Management is to deliver streamlined supply chain decision support, making it easier for leaders to make informed, timely, value-based, and defensible purchase decisions."

THE LARGER TREND

symplr reports that this is its sixteenth acquisition in the last six years. In September, the company purchased clinical communication platform Halo Health for an undisclosed sum. Founded in 2006, the Texas company is backed by private equity company Clearlake Capital Group.
