Patient-management company ABOUT Healthcare announced it has acquired AI analytics platform Edgility, enabling ABOUT to offer patient progression solutions with predictive and prescriptive analysis.
ABOUT Healthcare, formerly Central Logic, provides a product-care suite that allows it to move patients in and out of various settings, such as acute care and home-based care.
Edgility’s AI solution uses forecasting of discharge goals to provide real-time metrics that allow more efficient patient placement and movement in hospitals.
"Our acquisition of Edgility completes a powerful new end-to-end care orchestration solution that connects people, data, workflows and systems to improve outcomes and enable better coordinated care," Jonathan Shoemaker, CEO of ABOUT, said in a statement.
"Health systems can now derive deep situational awareness and decision support across the patient progression at the individual and system levels, removing friction points and natural delays, ultimately improving coordination at each step of the patient journey."
THE LARGER TREND
Edgility launched its first AI product, EdgeAi, in May 2022. EdgeAi machine learning predictions provide levers of action for discharge, transfers and home care settings.
In 2020, Rubicon Technology Partners acquired a majority stake in ABOUT Healthcare, which at the time was known as Change Logic. The company rebranded to position the company more accurately in the access and orchestration space and to reflect its holistic approach to patient care.
The Edgility acquisition is ABOUT Healthcare’s third since 2020.
In November 2020, ABOUT, announced it acquired Omaha-based Ensocare, which offered a platform for assistance with the inpatient referral process for post-acute care.
In 2021, ABOUT acquired Acuity Link. The company automated the transport and tracking process. Its Bed Visibility platform gave health systems a snapshot of available bed capacity and other healthcare resources.
Other companies in the patient-management space include SimplePractice. The Los Angeles-based company acquired the assets of psychiatry-focused EMR and practice-management company Luminello in 2023. The Luminello deal allowed SimplePractice to expand into the mental health market.
Data and analytics management company Health Catalyst announced the acquisition of cancer software and services company Electronic Registry Services in 2023. The acquisition expanded Health Catalyst’s offerings in the cancer registry patient information space by adding Electronic Registry Service's flagship CRStar platform to Health Catalyst’s suite of products.
