Sunrise, a company involved in sleep disorder diagnostics, announced it acquired Dreem Health, a California-based sleep clinic.
Sunrise aims to "democratize and accelerate" access to sleep care by integrating Sunrise's proprietary diagnostic technology with Dreem Health’s partnerships with major insurers and Medicare.
Sunrise also named Laura Warnier chief growth officer. In that role, Warnier will oversee growth by building and managing the sales and marketing teams.
"Our expansion into all 50 U.S. states is a pivotal milestone for our Dream Health sleep clinic as we bring seamless, patient-focused sleep care to the world’s largest healthcare market," Laurent Martinot, founder and CEO of Sunrise, told MobiHealthNews.
"Laura’s proven track record of building and scaling global businesses will be instrumental as we amplify our reach, accelerate growth, and position Sunrise as leader in sleep diagnosis and treatment. Together, we are shaping a future where sleep disorders are better understood and addressed at a very large scale."
Sunrise has received more than $35 million in capital from investors, including Amazon’s Alexa Fund, Kurma Partners and VIVES Partners.
THE LARGER TREND
In 2023, Sunrise was granted FDA 510(k) clearance for its home sleep apnea test that is placed on a user's chin at night.
The test utilizes a sensor that analyzes bio-signals from mandibular jaw movements, which can help calculate respiratory disturbance often found in sleep apnea patients. It also evaluates airflow and oximetry during sleep to aid in diagnosing sleep-related breathing disorders and sleep apnea.
In 2021, Sunrise announced the closure of a €3.25 million ($3.40 million) fundraising round led by Kurma Partners, with participation from the VIVES-IUF fund linked to UCLouvain and Namur Invest. In addition to the funding round, there was also €3.25 million ($3.40 million) in non-dilutive funding from the European Innovation Council and the Walloon Region.
In 2019, Dreem unveiled the second version of its AI-enabled sleep-tracking headband and companion app, Dreem 2, in the U.S. The technology includes an EEG, heart rate, respiration and movement tracker. A user’s information is then monitored and analyzed by the system for their review the following day.
The headband has a companion app where the customers’ sleep data can be integrated into a seven-week sleep coaching program, which utilizes exercises, tools and advice.
