Tom Boyle, the co-chair of the European Connected Health Campus and VP of Business Development at Watermark Medical gave one of the better presentations at the Healthcare Unbound conference in San Diego this past week. Boyle argued that connected health companies have been focusing on the wrong issues when it comes to adoption. Too many discussions taking place are focused on challenges that have already been answered, Boyle argued:
Is there clinical evidence? Yes.
Is there clinical need? Yes.
Is the technology available? Yes.
Do we need to reduce costs? Yes.
Boyle challenged attendees at Healthcare Unbound to instead focus on a different set of questions. Questions whose answers we don't yet know, according to Boyle:
How do we buy it?
How do we deploy it?
How do we evaluate it?
How do we integrate it? (Into workflow; With other systems)
How do we advance it?
Boyle said that the mandate of the European Connected Health Campus is to help answer some of these questions, particularly those around procurement of connected health systems and services.
