Phoenix, Arizona-based Orb Health, which makes a care coordination platform for population health management, has raised $3.2 million in Series A funding in a round led by Mt Vernon Investments, with participation from some returning seed investors including Green Park & Golf. The funding will be used to further Orb’s partnership growth with health systems and physician-owned practices.
Previously, the company raised $650,000. This recent investment brings the company’s total funding to at least $3.88 million.
Orb Health’s cloud-based platform aims to make clinical workflow more efficient by integrating electronic medical records and Orb’s proprietary patient engagement tools that pull data from wearable fitness trackers and other sensors, plus information from lab tests or medical devices. The platform’s interface, which features colorful charts and graphics, also makes it easier for physicians to discuss lab results with their patients.
Orb Health participated in Dallas-based accelerator Health Wildcatters, which began in August 2014. It was designed to serve as an extension of a practice while upholding each organization’s specific clinical guidelines and care philosophy.
“This funding is an important validation of our progress and vision for a new standard of technology-enabled, patient-centered collaborative care that ultimately advances healing,” Orb Health CEO and Cofounder Paul Oran said in a statement. “Providers are under enormous pressure to engage patients, leverage technology and comply with ever-changing healthcare regulations. Orb Health makes it easy to succeed both financially and on behalf of patients.”
The platform enables synchronization of patient health records by automatically identifying and qualifying eligible patients for chronic care management and related programs, and Orb Health will also sync data back to the practice’s EMR in a way that complies with the organization’s existing policies and guidelines.
Additionally, the Orb Health platform aims to support revenue for practices. All care team and patient engagement activities on the Orb Health platform are tracked using chronic care management CPT codes to help physicians get the most out of reimbursement opportunities.
