Neighborhood Health Plan (NHP) members in Massachusetts now have access to Welltok’s CafeWell platform following a deal between the payer and consumer health software company. The platform, which is targeted at increasing member engagement, will let the NHP reach out to its members through texting, calls, and emails.

"Our collaboration with Welltok reinforces NHP's commitment to outstanding customer experiences and will help us continue to deliver on that promise by connecting members with tools and resources to support their health and wellness goals,” Dr. Tony Dodek, NHP's chief medical officer, said in a statement. "This partnership will also improve our ability to provide our members with personalized wellness recommendations on their preferred communications channels, like text and mobile.”

In addition to the communication channels offered by the platform, Welltok also gives users tools to keep track of their own health. Members are able to join programs that are designed to help them with their wellbeing and overall health goals, like weight management and stress reduction. Users can also connect the platform to their personal tracking device, view educational tools, and connect people to other members through blogs.

“We are proud to be working with NHP to support the health and wellbeing of its employer clients and all NHP members at a personal level by meeting members where they are and serving up high[ly] relevant and valuable resources,” Rob Scavo, president and COO of Welltok, said in a statement.

The companies are also working together on a new bilingual health risk assessment program. The idea is to find the needs of different members, and then be able to come up with tools that support those needs.

This isn’t Welltok’s first deal with a healthcare payer. In 2017, Minnesota-based HealthPartners also teamed up with the consumer SaaS company to offer CafeWell.

Aside from partnerships, Welltok has been busy in the last few years. In April it closed a $75 million Series E2 funding round. Prior to this, the platform acquired healthcare analytics company Tea Leaves Health from j2 Global subsidiary Ziff Davis for $83 million.
