Barcelona, Spain-based digital therapeutic company Braingaze announced that it is partnering with China’s insurance giant Ping An Group and eye-tracking innovator 7invensun to deliver convenient and accurate diagnostic solutions to kids in China who are suffering from ADHD disorders.
As part of a broader collaboration with Ping An Group, the health services giant in China, Braingaze set out to explore how these diagnostic testing solutions could be offered to Chinese clinicians which run into possible cases of ADHD.
7invensun, which was founded in 2009 and has been offering a range of eye-tracking hardware and software solutions in different sectors, will also join as a hardware provider to support Braingaze’s system.
After initial technology compatibility validations, the three companies are now finishing the configuration of a comprehensive solution package that will allow Ping An Group, whose various business units include Good Doctor, Smart City Health, and Health Test Centre, to perform reliable, objective and convenient testing for ADHD patients.
WHY IT MATTERS
Currently, reliable ADHD diagnosis requires 4-6 hours of interviews following semi-structured questionnaires. Final accuracy of this classical approach typically ranges from between 85% to 90%, which means one in eight or one in ten diagnostic conclusions are wrong. With the Braingaze test system, a 12-minute test has shown to reach 92% accuracy, thereby outperforming even the better-trained psychiatrists that are specialized in ADHD.
THE LARGER TREND
Founded in 2013, Braingaze is a spinoff company from the University of Barcelona and the company has designed a video-game like ADHD therapy tool dubbed BGaze Bird, which includes a selfie camera that lets a clinician oversee the therapy at work, MobiHealthNews reported.
Chinese health services giant Ping An is no stranger to collaborations with other industry players: its subsidiary Ping An Good Doctor has partnerships with Germany’s Merck, Thailand’s BDMS and the Guangxi government, to name a few. In February, the Group launched its COVID-19 smart image-reading system, which assists doctors with efficient and accurate diagnoses by leveraging Ping An’s AI tech.

“The eyes are an integral part of the brain. By analyzing eye movements, we indirectly measure neural activity. This allows us to access regions that are located deep in the brain and are the origin of many mental disorders. With interactive eye-tracking games, we stimulate these regions to treat mental health problems; in this diagnostic set-up, we use the games to trigger a signal that we measure with high-resolution eye-tracking devices like the 7invensun tablet,” said Prof Dr Hans Supèr, Scientific Director of Braingaze.
