Thailand's Ministry of Public Health has recently disclosed its plan to provide digital health passes through the government's mobile vaccination app Mor Prom.
The Thai government developed the Mor Prom LINE account and mobile app to assist in its COVID-19 vaccination drive. The AI-powered app allows people to reserve a vaccine slot and get updated information on the country's COVID-19 situation.
WHY IT MATTERS
The upcoming app feature, according to a news report, will enable air travel around Thailand. Deputy Minister of Public Health Satit Pitutecha described the digital health passes displaying a person's vaccination status, COVID-19 test reports and past infections. The travel passes will be valid for up to three years.
The MPH has signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Civil Aviation Authority and the Thai Airline Association to allow the use of the Mor Prom app in flights.
THE LARGER CONTEXT
The addition of digital health passes on the Mor Prom app comes as Thailand has eased some social restrictions starting this September. The MHP has recently declared the end of a recent wave of COVID-19 infections that began in April. Today, public transport in the country is permitted to operate at 75% capacity.
