Redwood City, California-based Naked Labs has announced its body scanning mirror, called Naked 3D Fitness Tracker, is now available for preorder at just under $500. Naked Labs, which was founded last year, is backed by NEA and Three Leaf Ventures.

“We believe the only fitness metric worth tracking is progress,” Naked Labs CEO Farhad Farahbakhshian said in a statement. “With the Naked 3D Fitness Tracker, people can immediately see how and where their bodies are changing. The Naked 3D Fitness Tracker is transformative in its ability to motivate people to achieve their health and fitness goals through visualizations of their progress on their 3D body model.”

The Naked 3D Fitness Tracker is a WiFi-enabled mirror that has built-in infrared sensors and communicates with a turntable scale. When a user steps onto the scale, which activates the mirror, the scale rotates the user 360 degrees to create a body scan. The tracker measures the user’s body fat percentage and weight and scans their body using Intel RealSense technology. Users don't have to be naked to be scanned, but the company advises for best results users wear underwear or compression shorts for men and underwear or spandex and bra for women. 

This data is sent to the companion app, available on iOS or Android devices, which will also show the user how their body changes over time — where the user is gaining muscle or losing fat, for example. Some use cases for the system include increasing muscle mass, losing weight, and tracking a pregnancy. Each device can sync up to six accounts. Naked Labs stores the users’ data on encrypted cloud servers and users are able to personalize which information is synced with the cloud.

The system is available for preorder for $499 and the company says it expects to ship devices in March 2017.
