Roseville, California-based telehealth company Kura MD raised $1.5 million in a round led by Moneta Ventures. The company's team includes telemedicine pioneer Dr. Jay Sanders as director of telemedicine strategy. This is its first round of institutional funding.

Kura MD has created a virtual visits offering accessible via smartphone, tablet, or computer, and intended for use by individual physicians, physician groups, urgent care providers, and workers’ compensation practitioners.

The new funding will help the company expand into occupational health. It will also help it ramp up its marketing, according to the Sacramento Business Journal. Kura MD, which was founded in 2013, has about 20 employees.

During the virtual visits, physicians can also bring in a specialist to consult with the patient. According to the company, the Kura MD network includes behavioral health professionals, physician assistants, nurses, physical therapists, managed care organizations, urgent care facilities, government contractors, and diagnostic testing facilities.

Kura MD also offers a registration system, insurance verification, reimbursement documentation, and billing. The video visits offering also aims to make it easier for patients to share data from home medical devices with physicians.
