Boston-based PatientPing, which makes a care coordination platform that alerts healthcare providers whenever a patient receives care elsewhere, has announced a partnership with Catholic healthcare ministry Mercy Health that will bring the service to Ohio and Kentucky care teams.
The healthcare system will be using PatientPing’s platform to better share data outside of their network, supporting care transitions for patients receiving care through Medicare or one of the system’s other various bundled payment models.
"At Mercy Health our focus is to deliver high quality patient care throughout the continuum and ensure integration, follow up and timely care occurs with all patients whether they are in the emergency department, hospital, in a skilled nursing facility, or at home," Mercy Health Select Chief Quality Officer and President Dr. S. Ramalingam, said in a statement. "Through the PatientPing platform, our clinical care teams now receive real-time information and notifications on their patients. As such, we are able to enhance care coordination so that we can be assured our patients are getting the best possible care and follow up at every step of their healthcare journey."
PatientPing’s product is a clinical event notification platform that sends real-time messages to providers whenever their patients are admitted, transferred, or discharged from a facility. The service works across acute, ambulatory, and post-acute facilities, and is also agnostic to EHRs, provider networks, or any other organizational barriers that would create silos.
The company raised $31.6 million in Series B roughly a year ago, in a round led by Andreesen Horowitz and Leerink Transformation Partners that brought its total funding up to $41.2 million. Last month, an analysis of national data sets from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services showed that Accountable Care Organizations using PatientPing’s service had higher savings that those that did not.
According to the release, PatientPing’s partnership with Mercy Health — the largest health system in Ohio — will allow the system to take on more risk and improve performance under value-based care arrangements.
