South Korean AI software developer VUNO has disclosed that it partnered with Samsung Electronics for the integration of its AI-enabled chest x-ray diagnostic solution with Samsung's premium mobile digital radiograph system.
WHAT IT DOES
According to VUNO's press release, Samsung's GM85 features quick charging and a long-lasting battery to provide "enhanced user convenience," as well as "superior" image quality. It was described as having a lightweight and ultra-compact design.
Running on the VUNO Med-Chest X-ray software, the mobile digital x-ray system is able to produce AI-driven results "on the spot". The diagnostic support tool can be used in emergency rooms and intensive care units, as well as in medical environments with limited or no network connections.
WHY IT MATTERS
Powered by VUNO's AI algorithm, the GM85 can "accurately and instantly" spot suspected chest abnormalities indicative of major pulmonary diseases, such as tuberculosis, pneumonia and lung cancer. The software detects five of the most common thoracic findings: nodule/mass, pneumothorax, interstitial opacity, pleural effusion and consolidation.
The GM85 is slated for commercial release later this year in South Korea and other major markets across the globe.
THE LARGER TREND
In April, VUNO published the findings of its study that demonstrated a significant improvement in the diagnostic accuracy of its Med-Chest X-ray solution in terms of per-lesion and per-image sensitivity. The software was also found to cut reading time by an average of 50%.
VUNO obtained clearance from both South Korea and Europe for its chest diagnostic software in the past two years.
In other news, LG Electronics recently introduced its latest line of Digital X-ray Detector medical imaging devices that also feature VUNO's AI algorithm. The devices are already out in North America and will later arrive in European and Asian markets.
ON THE RECORD
"I am delighted to partner with Samsung Electronics in embedding our best-of-breed AI solution into their mobile digital X-ray devices. This collaboration will bring us closer to making our market-ready AI applications more accessible across the globe. We will continue to focus on advancing our technology to deliver improved patient outcomes," VUNO co-founder and CEO Hyun-jun Kim said in a statement.
"Incorporating VUNO's AI technology, we can introduce a more sophisticated mobile X-ray system with AI-enabled CAD [computer-aided design]. We will continue to extend our partnerships to develop a leadership position in the global X-ray market," said Woo-young Jang, head of the DR Business Team at Samsung Electronics.
