Epocrates buys Modality

Epocrates has finally launched a native iPad version of it's landmark drug information app, up until now a conspicuous and much-discussed omission. The release is part of a larger strategy by CEO Andy Hurd to turn around the struggling company, which posts its second annual loss this year on revenue estimates of about $110 million. Epocrates has acquired smartphone medical reference applications publisher Modality for $13.8 million in cash, according to an SEC filing Epocrates turned in today. On November 12, Epocrates "acquired Modality for its current applications for the Apple iPod touch and iPhone as well as its existing personnel and processes in place to develop additional such applications," according to the filing....
