More details have emerged about the not-yet-launched Boston-based digital health hub run by startup accelerator MassChallenge. The digital health hub was first announced at the beginning of this year

In January, leaders of the city of Boston and the commonwealth of Massachusetts came together at Boston Children’s Hospital to announce the partnership, which is aimed at enhancing the profile of digital health in Boston.

The Boston Globe now reports that the hub will have space for between 30 and 40 startups that will receive free work space, mentoring, and networking if they join the accelerator. MassChallenge Managing Director Scott Bailey told the Globe that the accelerator will initially be funded by a $250,000 state grant, but that he plans to use private funding moving forward.

Bailey said his team plans to hire someone to run the accelerator soon and will likely have a ribbon cutting in the next two months.

The digital health hub is receiving sponsorship and support from an elite business group, called the Massachusetts Competitive Partnership, which is made up of executives from some of the largest companies in Massachusetts.

One member, Vertex Pharmaceuticals, signed on as one of the digital health hub’s first sponsors. Another member, Suffolk Construction, said it would provide the digital health hub with interior construction work for free.
