Physical therapy software and EMR provider WebPT is partnering with tech giant Intel to integrate Intel RealSense PT Metrics into the WebPT EMR platform for physical therapy providers, allowing for AI-enabled motion-capture technology.

RealSense PT Metrics is an AI-enabled data-driven kiosk that tracks and analyzes a patient's movement, posture and range of motion, and directs patients through their physical therapy routines.

The platform will be integrated into WebPT's EMR system and automatically chart patient information.

The technology was previously used for motion capture for various sports, and Intel says it is now bringing it into healthcare for physical therapy treatment delivery through the partnership.

"Through Intel RealSense PT Metrics, and ultimately integrating this advanced motion capture technology into WebPT’s EMR system, we’re empowering physical therapists with the high-quality data and tools to track patient progress throughout their care journey," Nadav Orbach, vice president and general manager of Intel Incubation and Disruptive Innovation at Intel, said in a statement.

THE LARGER TREND

In July, WebPT announced an extended partnership with PredictionHealth to develop advanced AI-enabled tools for rehab organizations to reduce documentation burden, increase reimbursement and improve compliance.

The companies initially partnered in 2023 to offer WebPT members the opportunity to leverage PredictionHealth's analytics and AI platform to gain insights into improving rehab therapy practices.

Earlier this year, WebPT partnered with Limber Health, a company that merges a digital approach with in-person musculoskeletal care, after the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) requested the companies harmonize their respective quality-measure sets.
