Wireless medical devices need to consider hospital's WLAN: Medical Connectivity's Brian McAlpine shares his thoughts on the Medical Device Connectivity event in Cambridge last week in a post over at MC, which conclude with an assessment of wireless integration into medical devices done right: "Dealing with the identification of wireless device data from mobile and transient medical devices brings a whole new set of challenges – and this is both a technical problem as well as a clinical workflow issue. There are quite a few device manufacturers that offer wireless in their devices. However, there are really only a few vendors that have done wireless right. And by this, I mean taking into consideration all of the requirements to operate on the hospital’s enterprise WLAN and requirements for how the wireless device help facilitate integration to enterprise systems such a EMR’s and alarm notification systems." More

Radiology wiki now on iPhone: MedGadget reports that Radiopaedia.org, a wiki for radiologists, just announced the availability of their educational application the iPhone. The app includes a number of cases that seek to help students prepare for exams, but could also be used by clinicians seeking a refresher for their clinical work. More
